Grounded Strength: Retaining Wall Design for Shadrack & Wallace

Imperium Engineering was appointed to design and deliver a robust retaining wall structural design for a development on challenging terrain. This vital intervention enabled future construction by stabilising a steep slope and protecting the site from soil movement and water ingress.

Project Highlights

  • Custom retaining wall designed for complex slope
  • Integrated ground reinforcement engineering solutions
  • Drainage systems built into structural wall elements
  • Completed within two weeks from brief to installation

Engineering for Slope Stability

After conducting a geotechnical review, our team developed a retaining solution using reinforced concrete and geogrid backfill. The system provided the necessary resistance against lateral soil pressure, ensuring a safe, buildable platform above.

Our design also included comprehensive slope stabilisation solutions, factoring in drainage, surface runoff, and settlement zones.

Concrete Retaining Systems with Long-Term Performance

The wall was engineered using layered compaction zones and reinforced concrete panels with footings designed to counter sliding and overturning moments. Sub-surface drainage was incorporated directly into the structure—eliminating hydrostatic pressure build-up and increasing durability.

This type of concrete retaining system is designed for longevity, requiring minimal maintenance while providing permanent support for future development.

Outcome

Completed in just two weeks, the retaining structure at Shadrack & Wallace is now a foundational asset—both literally and figuratively. It exemplifies geotechnical engineering services delivered with speed, certainty, and technical strength.
